Im not sure who's still reading this, but the backend (admin/management pages) are all now restored and functional. I have also completed the many MANY settings changes on the server for security and hopefully smooth performance. Focus now turns to the app. More updates as they come.
Restoration of dankdronedownloader website
Right, the first visible change is now...visible...the main ddd website is now back online and serving files. Please note, i am spending today refining the system to make sure everything is functional so there may be brief periods of downtime if i have to restart a service or whatever. I will then move onto the app. I need to come up with a plan here as the update system was actually on the main DDD server which is now down & as such the app has no idea where its updater is. Oversight from my part, but i have a plan, its just not ready yet.
Hard Disk Failure - Update 5
FIle Repo & Databases brought back online.
NOTE: The website and app are still offline, but background services are now online ready for the frontend stuff to come back. The first service to return will be the website, followed by the app. Standby...
Hard Disk Failure - Update 3
The original replacement server has now been replaced with a server matching the exact spec of the failed server as the data restore was throwing errors when attempted due to the mismatch in disk sizes and hardware it seems. As of 22:29 GMT, the new server is active.
Rather than attempting a disk>disk restore, it seems i may have to restore elements of the server one by one. This will take more time of course, but in all reality, i didnt make much progress today trying it the other way. I will update this post before i sign-off for the night, but my aim is of course to restore service ASAP. If i fail to make progress, i will be contacting the hosts first thing in the morning and paying for some professional assistance and contract them to perform the restore for me as i cannot take the systems being down much longer. I feel a personal responsibility to every single one of DDD's users to have this back up ASAP and sometimes i have to realise my own limitations.
More soon...wish me luck, but have no fear, we will be back!
Hard Disk Failure - Update 2
The replacement server is now provisioned & the next steps are to begin the data restore. This will obviously take some time to complete & i then need to test everything on the new machine and slowly bring back connectivity to all of DDD's components.
